Common Ground Aotearoa Newsletter November 2023
We're looking for volunteers for campaigns across the country
Update on our Wellington campaign
Unfortunately, Wellington City Council has delayed consideration of Land Value Rates until later this council term; we can expect much of the activity around this issue to take place in late 2024 / early 2025 with a decision reached sometime in 2025. If you’re eager to contribute to that big push, get in touch with us closer to the time, until then we’re continuing to slowly build support for Land Value Rates in Wellington.
Call for action across New Zealand
While Land Value Rates is temporarily on the back burner in Wellington, we’re expanding our efforts to advocate for this change in other cities and districts in Aotearoa. For each region there’s a process of gathering data, conducting analysis, reaching out to communities and engaging with city councilors and we’d love to have some local residents help us with this process in any way they might be able to! This could look like putting us in contact with the right people, providing insight into the local housing situation, or submitting to your local council. If you’re particularly passionate about local politics, we’re even opening to backing candidates for council who support Land Value Rates.
Whatever you’re able to contribute, we’re keen to build our movement so do get in touch. A reminder that you can find us on Twitter, Facebook or via email: contact@common-ground.org.nz.
Revamping our website
We’ll be revamping our website soon, including publishing more of our detailed analysis about what Land Value Rates would mean for ratepayers across New Zealand. Stay tuned!
